Authorise an Agent to Sign a Specific Property Document

If you cannot sign a property document yourself, identify the exact task before granting authority. Signing a specified document is different from handling every aspect of a transaction.

Identify the document and limits

Name the property, document, version and purpose. Agreed price, payment terms or handover date can define the limits. State whether changes are permitted. Do not authorise every related document before understanding the terms.

Check the recipient’s requirements

A lease, bank document and land registration may require different forms of authority and identification. Ask the receiving organisation which form, signing method and supporting documents it accepts. A chat message is not a universal substitute. If signing from abroad, check certification and original-document requirements early.

Obtain the signed version

Set an expiry, address delegation and require delivery of the complete signed document. Compare it with what you authorised. Reconfirm material changes before signing. This is authority for a particular document; receiving money and earning commission need separate arrangements.

For the broader appointment, see Agree a Property Agent’s Scope of Work.

Ownership, tax and visa rules change and individual situations differ. This is general information, not legal advice — confirm with a qualified professional before acting.
