Living in Saraphi

What it's like to live in Saraphi: lifestyle, amenities and the kind of property you'll find.

On this page

In short: Saraphi is Chiang Mai's affordable southern district, on the old road toward Lamphun, where longan orchards and the ancient ruins of Wiang Kum Kam sit beside new estates. It suits buyers who want land and a house at the city's lowest per-square-metre prices, with a straight run into town.

The character of the area

Named after the Saraphi tree, the district is best known for Wiang Kum Kam — the settlement where King Mangrai lived for a decade before founding Chiang Mai, now an archaeological park of ruined temples. Framed by longan orchards and the historic Chiang Mai–Lamphun road with its towering rain trees, Saraphi keeps a rural, orchard-belt feel.

Daily life and amenities

The district hugs the southern edge of the city, so shops, markets, schools and hospitals in Mueang Chiang Mai are close and the airport is a short drive. Local life centres on fresh markets, temples and the orchard lanes; the superhighway and Lamphun road make commuting straightforward.

This is land-and-house country, with some of the lowest asking prices near the city — commonly ฿27,000–38,000 per square metre. It appeals to self-builders and buyers who want a garden home close to town without central prices. Browse homes in Saraphi or compare prices by area.
